Project News and Updates

“Saving Waitakere over $1.3M”

UFS clients Netball Waitakere recently opened the latest UFS Sporthall at the Te Pai Centre, in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Te Pai Centre opening ceremonies were attended by hundreds of Netball Waitakere members, council members, trust members who funded the projects, as well as notable politicians including the Honourable John Banks, Mayor of Auckland and mayors from thee other major surrounding cities.

The 2400m2 Sporthall was part of a $7M development of the Te Pai Netball Courts in Henderson, Auckland.  Project Management firm N-Compass awarded the design and construct of the tension fabric structure to Universal Fabric Structures in September 2009 in conjunction with NZ partners, Fabric Shelter Systems (FSS).  The 36.5m wide x 60m long pre-engineered structure is designed as a structural steel curved frame assembly with a two chord lace 600m deep truss.  The preferred fabric cladding was chosen as premium Ferrari 902s PVC membrane.

During the ceremony N-compass project manager Suresh Nagaiya noted, “The selection of a fabric structure over a conventional structure has saved Waitakere City over $1.3M”.

The facility will be home to the 610 Winter League, and 165 Summer League netball teams in the West Auckland and Waitakere region.  With almost 10,000 members, this new development is a key part of the community development of Waitakere and is expected to provide a model for similar structures around New Zealand.

The Te Pai Centre forms part of Universal Fabric Structures’ strategy to develop many more state-of-the-art fabric covered Sporthalls for cities throughout New Zealand, Australia, and ultimately worldwide.

The speed of installation and cost effective operation of UFS structures provides mining and industrial companies worldwide with a major competitive edge. Lower up front and operating costs coupled with easy transportation and rapid installation and dismantling, make UFS structures the top choice over conventional structures for industrial applications.

The UFS Industrial Cover product range include the easy-to-erect Rapid-Span structures (5-16 m wide), light weight Alu-Span structures (15 – 50 m wide), and the fully customizable, clear span S-Span series (30-97) m wide for the extra large application.

Utilizing proven prefabricated modular designs featuring high quality galvanized structural steel or corrosion resistant aluminium and long-lasting PVC, the UFS industrial range is the key choice for all relocatable structure needs.
